Palo Alto head appointed as next managing partner

International firm Baker Botts LLP has announced John W. Martin’s election as its fifteenth managing partner, serving a four-year term commencing on 1 April 2019.

A member of the firm for 35 years, John is currently partner-in-charge of the firm’s Palo Alto office in California, as well as firm-wide head of recruiting and a member of the executive committee. He focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, capital markets and technology transactions. John will take over the position of managing partner from Andrew M. Baker after two terms; he was first elected in 2012, and is subject to mandatory retirement at the end of 2019 after 40 years with Baker Botts.

Andrew commented: ‘John is a bold and dynamic leader, and the perfect choice to lead our 179-year old firm in these changing times. I know that with John’s selection the future of the firm is in great hands.’

John Martin added: ‘Baker Botts is known for providing world class, professionally excellent client service in our key industry segments of technology and energy, and is ideally situated to continue growing our target markets on both the East and West coasts, in London and in Texas.

‘I want to take this opportunity to thank my partners for the trust they have placed in me. Being elected as our firm’s next managing partner is a great honour.’
