The Bar Standards Board (BSB) has announced the appointment of Elizabeth Prochaska and Leslie Thomas QC as barrister board members.
Elizabeth has served as legal director of the Equality and Human Rights Commission since 2017, having previously spent ten years as a barrister with Matrix Chambers. She has 12 years of experience in public and human rights litigation, and is also the founder of non-governmental organisation Birthrights, which promotes respect for women’s rights in maternity care.
Leslie practises from Garden Court Chambers, and was appointed QC in 2014. He specialises in claims against the police, public authorities and corporate bodies, as well as in inquests and public inquiries. In 2016, he won the Legal Aid Lawyers’ Award for his work on the Hillsborough case and in 2017, he won the UK Legal Diversity Lifetime achievement award.
Chair of the BSB, Baroness Tessa Blackstone, said: ‘Elizabeth and Leslie will bring extensive skills and knowledge and some valuable new perspectives to the existing board. I look forward to working with them.’
