Simon Lindsey is second fellow to receive judicial appointment
A second legal executive lawyer has been made a judge.
Simon Lindsey, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx), has been appointed deputy district judge on the South Eastern Circuit by the Lord Chancellor.
Lindsey, an associate partner at Greenwoods Solicitors in Hampshire, says: “I recognise that as one of the first wave of Chartered Legal Executives in this role it carries with it a considerable responsibility.
“After many years in the law I was at a point where I wanted to take a new path which still made use of the experience I accrued in private practice.”
Lindsey, who has been a fellow for 23 years, is a litigation lawyer working in industrial disease, employers' and public liability and catastrophic injury.
CILEx president, Stephen Gowland said Lindsey’s appointment would act as “inspiration and impetus” to CILEx fellows who hope to follow suit.
The Judicial Appointments Commission chief executive, Nigel Reeder says: “We welcome applications from good candidates whatever their legal background and select on merit.”
Fellows have been eligible for judicial roles since 2008, but fewer than 200 have applied.
Ian Ashley-Smith became the first fellow to be appointed when he became deputy district judge on the South Eastern Circuit in 2010.
