City regulation

Concerns over regulatory compliance delays business activities

Two-thirds of City decision-makers have delayed business activities due to uncertainties over regulatory compliance, while one-third say there is so much legislation that complying with one rule often means contravening another, according to Eversheds’ Regulation in the City report.

Nearly two-thirds of the 200 senior City executives taking part in the report said a “lighter touch” approach to implementation of EU law would make London more competitive. More than half want a two-tier regulatory framework, with one for the institutional marketplace and another for the retail and consumer market. However, nearly all acknowledged that tight regulatory control is necessary.
