Cobb LJ takes reins at Family Division

Former joint head of chambers at One Garden Court, Lord Justice Stephen Cobb has succeeded Sir Andrew McFarlane as president of the Family Division

Sir Andrew retired this month.

Cobb LJ, a graduate of Liverpool University, was called to the Bar in 1985 and took silk in 2003, practising in family law. He became a High Court judge in 2013 and joined the Court of Appeal last year. He played a leadership role during HM Courts and Tribunals Service’s Reform Programme.

The Lady Chief Justice, Baroness Carr described him as ‘ideally suited’ to his new role.
