In brief

Drug offences in England and Wales rose by 14% between April and June this year compared to the same period last, according to new figures. The police recorded crime quarterly update to June 2007 (compared to the same period in 2006) however, shows that robbery dropped by 9%; domestic burglary by 3%; vehicle-based crime by 12%; and violent crime was down 8%. Serious injuries caused by guns dropped 11%, but fatal shootings increased from 53 in 2006 to 56 in 2007.
