Cries of “divorce tourism” have followed the award of £2.8m to a Russian divorcee after the breakdown of her 18-month marriage.
Divorce proceedings were launched in Russia by the husband, Ilva Golubovich, but the wife, Elena, succeeded in having the Russian divorce invalidated by the High Court, although that decision was overturned in July.
However, the Court of Appeal upheld the High Court’s order that the husband pay the wife £2.8m. The joint costs of the case are believed to have exceeded £2m.
