Domestic abusers to go on record

Courts will be required to make a formal record when domestic abuse has been a factor in offending, from this week

The measure, introduced under the Sentencing Act 2026, aims to help identify and manage perpetrators and strengthen protections for victims. Court flags will be shared with relevant partners and agencies, and be visible on police, probation and prison digital systems.

Andrea Simon, London’s Victims’ Commissioner, said the measure would help justice agencies identify and respond to risks posed by perpetrators and, in the context of early prison releases,  protect victims from further harm.
