Extension for McKenzie Friends consultation

The government consultation, Reforming the courts’ approach to McKenzie Friends, has been extended until 9 June. Non-lawyer assistants to litigants in person have become a common feature of family courts since legal aid cuts took effect in April 2013, and some of these charge fees. A working group, chaired by Mrs Justice Asplin, is examining the issue and may suggest possible reform. The consultation was originally scheduled to close on 19 May. It invites submissions relevant to courts in England and Wales..
