Firm bolsters Shanghai capabilities with team hire

Global firm HFW has announced the launch of a China transactional practice, with the hire of a partner and an associate, as well as the relocation of two of its members.

Partner Daniel Leung and associate Ren Furong have both joined HFW from the Shanghai office of Squire Patton Boggs; Daniel will initially be based in HFW's Hong Kong office, before moving to Shanghai. The team is also complemented by partner Stephen Marais and senior associate Gordon Inkson, who are relocating to Shanghai from HFW's offices in Hong Kong and Singapore, respectively. The firm now has more than 200 lawyers in seven offices across the Asia-Pacific region.

Daniel Leung specialises in cross-border transactions, including M&A deals, inbound and outbound Chinese investments, corporate restructuring, and investment funds. Furong focuses her practice on land and real estate related issues, as well as capital markets and M&A. Stephen advises on banking and asset finance, with particular experience in ship, aviation and trade finance, while Gordon specialises in M&A, joint ventures and foreign investment, with a focus on the energy and mining sectors.

Nick Poynder, head of HFW’s Shanghai office, said: ‘I am very pleased to welcome Daniel and Furong to the firm and to have Stephen and Gordon join us in Shanghai. This is a significant development for our practice in Shanghai—we now have first-rate corporate and transactional expertise to complement our market-leading offering in all areas of shipping and dispute resolution. It also demonstrates our continued and long-standing commitment to the Chinese market—we've been in Shanghai for two decades and have ambitious plans for the future.’
