The BP Deepwater Horizon oilrig disaster off the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 had a far-reaching impact on health and safety regulation, prompting the European Commission to look at the safety of offshore oil and gas activities, and to conclude that existing regulation was inadequate. The Commission has now introduced new regulations for offshore exploration. Writing in NLJ this week, Richard Lissack QC and Fiona Horlick, of Outer Temple Chambers, review the implications of the Offshore Installations (Offshore Safety Directive) (Safety Case etc) Regulations 2015.
