Solicitors’ rules on confidentiality have been amended.
Previously, firms were only allowed to complete work already started for a client if they used an information barrier. The amendment, to rule 4 the Solicitors’ Code of Conduct 2007, extends the circumstances in which firms can act with an information barrier for clients where a new client with an interest adverse to the first poses a potential confidentiality risk.
