International arbitration expert John Beechey CBE has stepped down from his role of chair of the International Chamber of Commerce's (ICC's) arbitration programme. He hands over the reins to the programme’s incoming chair, Ania Farren, managing director of Vannin Capital.
John (pictured), the former president of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, has chaired the ICC’s UK arbitration programme since 2015. His tenure has included the setting up of a new Selections Subcommittee to improve UK nominations to the court, and the appointment of Iain Quirk of Essex Court Chambers as UK arbitration consultant. After stepping down as chair, John will remain a member of the UK Board of ICC.
Ania, formerly the programme’s vice chair, will now take on the position of chair as the first woman in the role. Now managing director of legal finance specialist Vannin Capital, Ania has more than 15 years of experience in international arbitration, with particular expertise in energy disputes. In addition to Ania’s appointment, Guy Pendell of CMS has assumed the role of vice chair.
