LALYs 2026 spotlight legal aid stars

Hillsborough Law Now, a coalition of lawyers and campaigners who helped bring about the Public Office (Accountability) Bill, has scooped the top award at this year's Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards (LALYs)

Charlotte Hennessy, whose father Jimmy was unlawfully killed at Hillsborough, told the audience at the awards in London last week, ‘It is an honour and a privilege to be in a room full of so many amazing people who hold those in positions of power to account’.

Darrell Ennis-Gayle, of Hodge Jones & Allen, won the criminal legal aid award, while the legal aid barrister award went to Karen Kabweru-Namulemu, 1GC Family Law.
