Electoral law in the UK needs reform, the Law Commissions of England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have said. In a consultation launched this week, the Law Commissions propose reform that would rationalise the laws governing all elections and make them consistent. The consultation is open until 31 March 2015. Bob Posner, legal counsel for the Electoral Commission, welcomes the consultation, describing the law as “voluminous, fragmented and unnecessarily complex”.
