Two promoted to partner in Guernsey and Jersey

Mourant, a law firm-led professional services business, has announced the promotion of two new partners in the Channel Islands. Guernsey employment and data protection law specialist, Rachel Guthrie, and Sam Malpass, a member of the Jersey finance and corporate team, have been promoted to partner, effective from 1 March 2025.

Rachel Guthrie (pictured) has been with Mourant for 14 years and specialises in all areas of contentious and non-contentious employment and data protection law, advising both global and local companies.

Sam Malpass joined the firm nearly a decade ago and advises many of the world’s leading financial institutions, private equity houses and corporates on a range of high value cross border transactions.

Mourant CEO, Jonathan Rigby, commented: 'Rachel and Sam are highly respected lawyers, with a reputation for delivering outstanding service and it is very pleasing to announce their promotion to Partner. Their appointments are testament to the high regard in which they are held by colleagues and clients alike and will help to ensure we continue to provide the best possible support to our clients as they navigate the fast-changing legal and regulatory landscape.'

Rachel Guthrie said: 'I'm delighted to be joining the Partnership and look forward to continuing to work with colleagues across the firm to grow our employment and data protection law practice. Thank you to all of my colleagues who have helped and supported me during my time at Mourant.'

Sam Malpass added: 'I’m thrilled to be joining the Partnership at such an exciting time for the firm. Mourant has provided an incredible platform for professional growth, and I look forward to contributing to our continued success.'

This development follows the recent news of the appointment of Lara Forte as a partner in Mourant’s growing Luxembourg team. Lara, who specialises in investment funds and related regulatory work, joined the firm at the end of February 2025.

Lara Forte commented: 'I'm excited to be part of Mourant and am already greatly enjoying working with colleagues across the firm. I look forward to continuing to support our clients with their Luxembourg investment management needs.'
