The Bar Standards Board has introduced an online annual registration scheme for barristers, after gaining Legal Services Board approval for the new rules
The new scheme modernises the authorisation process and makes it compliant with the Legal Services Act 2007. During the new process, barristers will be asked to verify their contact details; verify their practising status and entitlement to exercise reserved legal activities; confirm they have completed their CPD requirement, paid their practising certificate fee, and obtained sufficient indemnity insurance; and signed a declaration of truth.
Renewal will be completed online, and chambers and employers will be able to apply for block authorisation.
