Expert witnesses are finding it difficult to get paid for their work, a Bond Solon survey has found

Writing in this week’s NLJ, Bond Solon founder Mark Solon, investigates how and why this is happening, and what can be done about it.

The main excuse given by instructing solicitors was that the client had not yet paid them, followed by the client deciding they did not like the opinion given. However, a myriad of reasons may lie behind the non-payment.

Solon advises that the expert is independent, and suggests experts could tighten up their contractual position to ensure they get paid in future.
