Practising certificate fees freeze

Solicitors’ practising certificate fees could be frozen for the third year running, at £278

The proposed fee includes levies for the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, the Legal Services Board, the Financial Conduct Authority and the Legal Ombudsman, but does not cover contributions to the Compensation Fund. Following consultation, the proposed fee will be considered at the Law Society’s Annual General Meeting on 4 July and then go to the Legal Services Board for approval. Law Society president Christina Blacklaws said: ‘The PC fee has decreased by almost one fifth in real terms since April 2015.’
