RASSO statistics show high charge rate

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) brought charges in more than 5,600 rape-flagged cases (cases containing or relating to a charge of rape) referred by police in the past financial year, its highest rate on record

This translates to nearly four in five cases where the CPS makes a legal decision. Police referred about 9,500 rape-flagged cases to the CPS, with 2,900 resulting in a conviction.

Siobhan Blake, national CPS lead for rape and serious sexual offences (RASSO), said she hoped the high charge rate would give ‘survivors the confidence they need to seek a justice outcome’.
