Dispute resolution head earns Senior Counsel distinction

RPC Premier Law, the Singapore entity of City firm RPC, has announced the appointment of its partner Siraj Omar as Senior Counsel by the Chief Justice of Singapore.

Considered the equivalent of the UK’s Queen’s Counsel appointment, the Singapore Senior Counsel scheme highlights individuals for their expertise and top-tier advocacy skills. Siraj’s appointment, which brings the total number of Senior Counsel to 85, was one of just four recipients of the honour in January 2019.

Siraj is the head of the dispute resolution team at RPC Premier Law, and focuses his practice on banking and financial disputes, commercial litigation, and restructuring and insolvency. He is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a member of the International Association of Defence Counsel.

Siraj commented: ‘It is a huge privilege to be awarded the title of Senior Counsel. To be part of just a handful of people who are awarded this honour each year makes receiving it particularly special.

‘I hope this appointment will enable me to contribute to the development of the law by bringing complex or novel points of law before the court. I will also continue to prioritise my ongoing commitment to working with young lawyers to help mentor and develop the next generation of advocates.’
