Second Gatwick runway given green light

The Court of Appeal has dismissed a challenge to a second runway at Gatwick Airport, with no right of further appeal, in Barclay and another v Secretary of State for Transport [2026] EWCA Civ 1040

Campaign groups had sought a judicial review of the decision to approve the plans on the basis the High Court judge misinterpreted the Airports National Policy Statement, failed to find it was irrational for the secretary of state to conclude there would be significant national economic benefit, and that the secretary of state took an irrational approach to assessing the significance of aviation emissions.
