Life sciences expert joins as counsel

International firm Sidley Austin LLP has welcomed Georgia Gavriilidou, the former European Medicines Agency (EMA) senior legal adviser, to its London office as counsel.

In her previous role at the EMA, Georgia served as chief legal adviser on a wide range of pharmaceutical issues, including on the implementation of major pharmaceutical legislation. She also offers particular expertise in paediatric regulation. In her new role at Sidley Austin, she will sit as part of its global life sciences practice.

Georgia commented: ‘In exploring my options after leaving the EMA, Sidley was the obvious choice as it has an unmatched reputation for the quality of its work in the life sciences sector. Sidley provides an opportunity for me to work alongside highly talented lawyers to assist life sciences clients in navigating the most complex challenges the pharma industry is facing.’

Marie Manley, head of the London life sciences practice, also said: ‘Georgia’s in-depth knowledge of the EU pharma legal framework and the EU institutions will make her an excellent resource for our life sciences clients in Europe and globally. Georgia is a natural fit in our ever-growing EU life sciences practice. We are delighted to welcome her to the firm.’
