International arbitration & litigation lawyer joins global disputes practice
Stuart Isaacs QC, an established and highly regarded international arbitration and litigation lawyer with extensive first-chair advocacy experience, will join the London office of King & Spalding as a partner in its global disputes practice, effective February 9, 2015. Isaacs joins from Berwin Leighton Paisner, where he was partner and head of advocacy.
Stuart has undertaken first-chair advocacy in hundreds of commercial cases in his over-30-year career and also has practiced in a number of judicial and arbitral forums, including before the superior courts in England, the European Court of Justice and offshore jurisdictions such as the British Virgin Islands and other Caribbean countries. He has appeared worldwide in many international commercial arbitrations under the UNCITRAL rules, as well as the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce, London Court of International Arbitration, Singapore International Arbitration Centre and Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, among others. He has the distinction of being the first London QC authorized by the Singapore Attorney General to practice as a foreign lawyer. He sits regularly as an arbitrator and is a Deputy Judge of the High Court of England and Wales.
“Stuart is a superb advocate with an impressive range of experience and expertise, and I am very pleased he chose to join our growing international disputes team,” says Reggie Smith, leader of King & Spalding’s global disputes practice. “He enhances our disputes offering in London and Europe, as well as in Asia, where he also has an excellent reputation. Stuart will contribute significantly to developing new business in London and securing opportunities that require strong advocacy at trial.”
“In addition to his practice before the courts, we look forward to working with Stuart to continue the growth of our international arbitration practice,” says Ed Kehoe, co-head of the firm’s international arbitration practice.
“Stuart is a well-known and highly respected lawyer both within the international arbitration world and among the commercial disputes bar in London,” said Garry Pegg, King & Spalding’s London office managing partner. “His arrival brings to 14 the total number of our London disputes lawyers and increases our ability to provide our clients with first-chair advocate capability before the courts and in arbitration. We are excited that Stuart has joined our City global disputes team.”
Stuart says: “King & Spalding has a superior disputes practice. I have worked in the past with members of the team and have been impressed with their skills as advocates and depth of knowledge. I am glad to be partnering with King & Spalding’s talented, entrepreneurial team of lawyers who share my vision of creating a ‘one-stop-shop’ for clients with contentious matters to resolve.”
