Sweeting, 61, of 7 Bedford Row, will sit in the Queen’s Bench Division from 11 January. He was called to the Bar in 1983, took silk in 2001, and has enjoyed a variety of practice areas. He spent his first 15 years of practice mainly in the Crown Court, before concentrating on more commercial work in the Technology and Construction Court. In the past ten years, he has worked in the fields of clinical negligence, personal injury and on the Iraqi Civilians’ litigation.
He was approved for appointment along with three others―Doughty Street silks Henrietta Hill QC and Joel Bennathan QC who specialise in inquests and public inquiries and in complex criminal law, respectively, and who will sit in the Queen’s Bench Division; and 1GC’s Sarah Morgan QC, a children’s law specialist, who will sit in the Family Division.
