Therium—Stephen Akers

Insolvency expert joins litigation finance provider

Global litigation funder Therium Group Holdings has appointed Stephen Akers to lead its insolvency funding practice in London.

Stephen brings with him more than 30 years of experience handling complex and multi-jurisdictional insolvency cases. He was previously a partner with Grant Thornton for 16 years, before which he spent 15 years as a partner at Deloitte.

Stephen said: ‘Therium has always been a leading innovator in litigation finance. The firm already has a very strong track record in funding insolvency cases, as recognised by its recent “Insolvency Litigation Funder of the Year” accolade at this year’s Turnaround Restructuring and Insolvency awards, and I am very excited to have the opportunity to build on Therium’s success in this area. The breadth and flexibility of Therium’s litigation finance offering provides a huge opportunity for office holders to deliver better financial outcomes to creditors.’

Neil Purslow, Therium’s co-founder and chief investment officer, also said: ‘Stephen is one of the world’s preeminent insolvency professionals and we are delighted that he has joined Therium to lead our global insolvency litigation funding practice, which is a strong area of focus for the firm. He has tremendous global experience, having worked on some of the most high-profile, multi-jurisdiction insolvency matters. We look forward to him leading our growing insolvency litigation funding practice, where we see huge opportunity.’
