Third party access

The issue of third parties having access to client information has prompted the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) to launch guidance on ensuring client confidentiality. Third party access is a particular problem for firms that use other professional services, such as financial advice or translation services. Client permission may need to be sought before information is shared with third parties, and the guidance clarifies what should happen, as outlined in the Code of Conduct. David Middleton, SRA executive director, said firms must not breach client confidentiality or legal professional privilege.
