Whiplash Bill amendments hit speed bump

Attempts to amend the Civil Liability Bill, which introduces a tariff system for whiplash claims, have failed at the committee stage. Labour Party MPs had sought to limit the tariff system to injuries lasting less than one, rather than two, years, and had wanted judges to have discretion to intervene when they felt the amount of damages was too low. However, Conservative MPs carried the vote on each amendment and the bill will now proceed largely untouched to the third reading stage in the House of Commons.
