Workers get flexible

New system of flexible parental leave

The government has confirmed it will extend the right to request flexible working to all employees and introduce a system of flexible parental leave.

Under the proposals, mothers will continue to have up to 52 weeks of maternity leave and will have to take a minimum of two or four weeks’ leave. The remaining leave can be shared between both parents. Employers must be given eight weeks’ notice of intention to take flexible leave. The government will consult on the proposals next year.
