London Tribunals is the statutory tribunal responsible for determining motorists’ appeals against civil penalty charges issued by enforcement authorities across London. The tribunal is funded by the 33 London boroughs and Transport for London (TfL), and is administered by London Councils, which provides the operational and administrative support necessary to enable the Adjudicators to carry out their judicial functions independently and effectively.

The Tribunal’s part-time, fee-paid adjudicators are all independent lawyers of at least five years’ eligibility for judicial appointment, holding office with the consent of the Lord Chancellor.

The role is hybrid, with adjudicators working independently and using an online case management system. When working remotely, adjudicators are expected to use their own IT equipment. Hearings are conducted either in person at the hearing centre or remotely via Microsoft Teams, so applicants should be proficient in Microsoft applications. Adjudicators are responsible for managing cases and hearings, assessing evidence, making findings of fact, applying the relevant law, and producing clear, reasoned written determinations through the online case management system.

This vacancy will be filled through a two-tier recruitment process. Individuals who are currently appointed as an adjudicator with the Road User Charging Adjudicators or the Traffic Penalty Tribunal are invited to submit an expression of interest for consideration.
