Leading family law set strengthens ranks with high-profile additions

1 Hare Court has welcomed two leading family barristers, Peter Mitchell KC and Amber Sheridan, boosting its membership to 52. The set, renowned for its depth of expertise in matrimonial finance, children cases, cohabitation disputes and wider family matters, has further cemented its reputation as the preeminent chambers in family law with the appointments.

Mitchell (pictured), called to the Bar in 1996 and appointed silk in 2020, is recognised as one of the foremost family barristers in the country. He has appeared in a number of landmark Supreme Court and Court of Appeal cases, including Agbaje, Sharland, Prest, Brack and Hart. His practice focuses on high-value financial cases involving complex asset structures, jurisdictional issues and disclosure disputes, alongside his work as a respected private FDR evaluator.

Sheridan, called in 2008, has built a strong practice across all areas of family law, with particular expertise in financial claims and Schedule 1 provision. She is well regarded for her work in cases with international elements, especially Part III MPFA 1984 proceedings, and also advises on professional negligence claims. Like Mitchell, she sits as a private FDR evaluator with a strong record of promoting settlement.

Steve McCrone, senior clerk at 1 Hare Court, said: ‘We’re thrilled to welcome Peter and Amber to chambers. Both of them have a superlative standing in the profession and a proven track record of success in the family law field. Their arrival augments our internationally renowned reputation, allowing us to provide clients with an even greater breadth of support.’ The appointments underline 1 Hare Court’s continuing growth and reinforce its standing at the forefront of family law in the UK and internationally.
