Addleshaw Goddard—Laura Uberoi

The firm launches private wealth finance team with new partner hire

Addleshaw Goddard has hired partner Laura Uberoi to lead its new private wealth finance team.

The team will provide specialist advice to the firm's private bank, family office, high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients across the globe. It will focus on collaborative working relationships between parties and will tap into Addleshaw Goddard's expertise in complex, high value and cross-border finance. The team will work closely with many of the firm's other practice groups, including private capital, financial regulation, real estate and disputes.

Laura has in-depth knowledge of the private wealth sector, having worked at Macfarlanes, Deutsche Bank and Farrer & Co, with both lenders and borrowers, and on a range of multidisciplinary domestic and international debt finance transactions.

Laura is currently sitting as a Law Society council member and main committee member of the City of London Law Society, former president of Westminster & Holborn Law Society, and former judge of the Women in Law Awards. She has taught at universities across the world, including the University of Cambridge and the University of Melbourne, and continues to lecture in her spare time. Before private practice, Laura worked with young people in detention facilities across the UK, and separately on capital punishment cases for the Texas Defender Service in the US.

Laura said: ‘I am delighted to be joining Addleshaw Goddard at this time of huge growth for the business and, in particular, to launch the private wealth finance offering. This is an opportunity to draw on the existing expertise within the firm, across a number of practice areas and jurisdictions, to provide the best service to private banks, family offices and ultra-high net worth individuals. I am looking forward to playing my role to grow the AG brand globally.’

Commenting on Laura's appointment, Steve Mackie, head of group finance & projects, said: ‘We are pleased to expand our finance practice further and welcome Laura to Addleshaw Goddard to lead our new private wealth finance offering. She has demonstrated throughout her career the ability to provide clients with first-class advice in the unique manner required by the demands of private wealth finance.

‘With the continued growth at AG and our continual expansion internationally, Laura's appointment underlines our intention to deliver market-leading legal services in all of the areas required by our clients.’
