ADOPTION CONCERN

In brief

Family lawyers plan a new push to persuade the government to make family court proceedings more transparent. Former lord chancellor, Lord Falconer, last month decided against making family court hearings less secret. But with Jack Straw now at the helm of the Ministry of Justice, campaigners are hopeful that the decision will be reversed. The campaign is been spearheaded by Sarah Harman. She says: “It’s not the welfare of the child that is being protected, it is the welfare of social workers. This cannot be justified.”
