Disputes funder bolsters team with eight appointments
Litigation funder Augusta Ventures has expanded its London team with the announcement of eight hires.
Its newly-appointed head of group litigation funding is Jacqueline Young (pictured), who joins after five years with Slater and Gordon where she was head of group litigation. Jacqueline is highly experienced in group litigation claims, with former matters including representing a claimant group pursuing Volkswagen over emissions, and handling claims on behalf of Thalidomide victims.
Jacqueline commented: ‘I am delighted to have joined Augusta at a time when there is real ambition and commitment to pursue large scale, complex group cases. The structure and funding of such litigation is vital to case success and I feel well placed to ensure that cases which would otherwise flounder can see the light of day and provide well deserving claimants with a route to remedy.’
The remaining seven new recruits are as follows:
- Simon Latham, who specialises in handling competition disputes, and joins Augusta from Hausfeld;
- William Franklin, who has moved from Hogan Lovells, and focuses on the funding of international arbitration disputes;
- Samuel Thampapillai from Eversheds Sutherland, who advises on financial services and commercial disputes;
- Alex Southby, who handles general commercial and insolvency disputes, and joins from Manolete Partners;
- Alicia Wilson spent 12 years at Mishcon de Reya LLP advising on commercial litigation, and will now work as part of Augusta’s diligence team;
- Chris Paterson, who has moved from his former position of senior practice manager with Keating Chambers, in order to head a newly-created marketing and business development team; and
- Brendan Wasmuth, who joins the senior management team as head of finance after acting as international financial controller of AXA Partners.
