Beale & Co

Professional indemnity team expands by four

Construction and insurance firm Beale & Co has strengthened its professional indemnity practice with the hire of two partners and two associates.

Peter Sewell and Eileen Pathiraja have both joined from DWF. Peter previously spent 26 years with his former firm and served as its head of professional indemnity; he focuses his practice on cases within the construction field, and also advises insurers on professional risk. Eileen (pictured) is experienced leading the defence of complex construction claims both in the UK and internationally.

In addition to the double partner appointment, Tim Sheldon and Toby Osborne have also joined from DWF as a senior associate and associate respectively. The firm now counts more than 40 lawyers as members of its professional indemnity team.

Senior partner Sheena Sood commented: ‘We are delighted to welcome Peter, Eileen, Tim and Toby to the team, during what is an exciting time for Beale & Co. The recruitment of lawyers of their calibre and experience is a sign of our commitment to grow our specialist firm in all practice areas and across each of our offices in the UK, Ireland and in Dubai.’

Peter said: ‘I am delighted to be joining a first class team of specialist lawyers adding strength and depth to a firm with an already leading reputation in the construction and insurance sectors. My experience and market knowledge will complement Beale & Co’s existing client offering and I look forward to working with the team.’

Eileen added: ‘I am excited to be joining Beale & Co. Their specialist approach offers a wealth of opportunities for construction and insurance clients across the UK and internationally.’

Timing is everything—and the Court of Appeal has delivered clarity on when proceedings are ‘brought’. In his latest 'Civil way' column for NLJ, Stephen Gold explains that a claim is issued for limitation purposes when the claim form is delivered to the court, even if fees are underpaid
The traditional ‘single, intensive day’ of financial dispute resolution (FDR) may be due for a rethink. Writing in NLJ this week, Rachel Frost-Smith and Lauren Guiler of Birketts propose a ‘split FDR’ model, separating judicial evaluation from negotiation
