Foreign government requests to the UK for information on cybercrime have jumped 44% in the past year, a threefold increase since 2013. A record 1,652 requests were made in 2015, according to information gathered by Thomson Reuters. Cyber fraud and hacking are difficult to trace and may require investigations in multiple jurisdictions. Law firms are particularly at risk due to the sensitive and confidential client information they hold, as witnessed in the recent Panama Papers incident.
