Bird & Bird—Huw Edwards

Bird & Bird appoints expert tech patent litigator as new partner in London

International law firm Bird & Bird has appointed experienced tech patent litigator Huw Edwards as a partner in its London Intellectual Property team.

Huw brings more than 20 years' experience in patent litigation, having started his career in private practice (including at Bird & Bird in the UK) before working in-house at leading companies.
Most recently, Huw led litigation operations at Nokia, where he spent a decade managing major patent litigation campaigns. He has managed high-profile disputes involving some of the world's largest technology companies.

Drawing on his experience in both private practice and industry, Huw advises on all aspects of complex patent disputes, including developing global patent assertion strategies and coordinating multi-jurisdictional litigation campaigns. He has worked across multiple jurisdictions, including Australia, France, Finland, Germany, India, Japan, Singapore, the Unified Patent Court (UPC), the UK and the US.

Huw is recognised in the IAM Strategy 300 for his expertise across the electronics, engineering and construction, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, and telecommunications sectors.

Tom Snaith, co-head of Bird & Bird's London Intellectual Property practice, said: "Huw's appointment reflects our continued investment in our international patent litigation practice. As global patent disputes become increasingly sophisticated, Huw’s experience leading complex, multi-jurisdictional patent disputes, particularly in the standard essential patents (SEP) space, will further strengthen our ability to support clients across our international network."

Phil Sherrell, Head of Bird & Bird London, said: "We are delighted to welcome Huw to the London team. He has an outstanding track record advising on some of the most significant global patent disputes in the technology sector. His combination of litigation expertise, commercial insight and first-hand industry experience will further strengthen our market-leading IP practice and provide invaluable insight to clients.”

Huw Edwards added: "Bird & Bird has an outstanding reputation for intellectual property, a longstanding focus on the technology sector, and a truly international platform. I am excited to rejoin the firm and look forward to working with colleagues across the firm to help clients navigate increasingly complex global patent disputes."
