Cameras in court expand

The Ministry of Justice has laid secondary legislation to allow, for the first time, proceedings in the Administrative Court, a part of the King’s Bench Division in the High Court, and sentencing remarks by the Chief Magistrate to be broadcast

The relevant statutory instrument, the Administrative Court (Recording and Broadcasting) and Court of Appeal (Recording and Broadcasting) (Amendment) Order 2026, enabled by the Crime and Courts Act 2013, was laid before both Houses of Parliament this week. The legislation comes into force immediately.

Recordings must be made with the permission of the Administrative Court and in accordance with any conditions imposed.
