New chief executive announced
The Law Society has appointed Catherine Dixon as its new chief executive.
Andrew Caplen, president of the Law Society says: "I am delighted that we have someone with Catherine's track record in the profession to help take the organisation forward. I very much look forward to working with her."
Catherine says: "I am excited and feel very honoured to be joining the Law Society. I am committed to ensuring that the Law Society has a strong voice for all our members. I want to help the organisation represent, promote and support the profession across the spectrum of practice, speaking up for them and creating an environment in which the entire profession can flourish.”
Catherine was brought up in Yorkshire, and then qualified as a solicitor, having gained a law degree and completed her Law Society finals at the College of Law in York. She also has an MBA and is an accredited mediator. She started her career in private practice, including working at Eversheds. She then joined Bupa, as the head of legal and subsequently as the commercial director of Bupa Care Services. Catherine left Bupa to spend a few years in Vancouver, Canada, initially out of the office as an instructor for Outward Bound and then as a director at Vancouver Coastal Health Authority.
Returning to the UK, Catherine joined the NSPCC as its general counsel and company secretary. She became the chief executive of the NHS Litigation Authority in April 2012. Catherine is also a trustee for the PDSA.
Outgoing chief executive, Desmond Hudson, retires at the end of this month.
Andrew thanked Desmond, saying: "On behalf of Council, I would like to thank Des for his tireless commitment to the organisation and the profession for the last eight years. We all wish him well for his retirement."
