Clarity sought on Unified Patent Court

A House of Lords Committee has fired off a letter seeking clarity on the future of the UK’s involvement in the Unified Patent Court system

The unitary patent and Unified Patent Court, which are being developed and which would sit outside EU law and EU institutions, would allow inventors to apply for a single patent to protect their invention in all participating states. It has been reported that the UK will no longer seek to participate. However, the government has not made a statement.

Lord Morris, chair of the EU Justice Sub-Committee, has written this week to the minister responsible, Amanda Solloway MP, in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, asking her to clarify the government’s position.
