Lawyers have until 31 March to respond to its broad-ranging 359-page paper, published last month. Topics include compensation where an order is withdrawn or abandoned, and the repeal of the Lands Clauses Consolidation Act 1845, which standardised acquisition and compensation procedures.
Commissioner Professor Alison Young said the current law ‘is complex and inaccessible’.
The Law Commission aims to ‘draw heavily’ on its reports in 2002 and 2004 on compulsory purchase, in which it made recommendations that were not subsequently implemented.
