Firm boosts Dublin office with partner hire
International law firm Kennedys has expanded its Dublin office with the appointment of partner Daniel Scanlon into its growing insurance and litigation practice.
Daniel joins from Maples & Calder where he was a key member of its insurance disputes and commercial litigation group since 2011.
Daniel specialises in high value and complex litigation with a particular focus on professional negligence claims and insurance disputes. He has extensive experience in accountancy and banking litigation. Most recently, he was involved in leading the €1bn professional negligence case arising from the collapse of Quinn Insurance.
Daniel qualified with Mayer Brown in London in 2002 and also worked in its New York office. He then moved to Simmons & Simmons in Hong Kong before taking a role at corporate firm Matheson in Dublin.
Daniel’s appointment builds on recent recruitment across the firm. At Kennedys his focus will be on working with accountants and their insurers. He will work closely with insurance partners Noel Devins, who joined the firm from DWF Fishburns, and Ian Crotty, to further expand the local insurance offering.
Nick Thomas, Kennedys’ senior partner says: “We are delighted to have Daniel join our Dublin office. His expertise, experience and ambition will help us to grow our service in Ireland and beyond. Our Dublin office provides valuable advice and support to the many insurers headquartered in Ireland. Linked closely with our Belfast office, it’s an important jurisdiction and provides a link back to the London Market and our local offices in the UK.”
Commenting on his appointment, Daniel adds: “I’m very pleased to be joining Kennedys and am looking forward to working with its many domestic and global insurance and financial services clients. There is a high degree of synergy between my client base and that of Kennedys. The firm’s international reputation was a big draw for me and my aim will be to help further develop its existing Irish market practice.”
Kennedys’ Dublin office was established in 2011, following the merger of the firm with its long-standing Dublin associate. Its clients are in the insurance, banking and finance, agriculture, retail and construction industries. The office’s eight partners, including Daniel, are supported by 19 staff and provide a full range of dispute resolution services. They also provide a range of property, corporate and commercial and private client services.
