Law firm promotes 13 to counsel

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP has recently announced that Benjamin Collins-Wood, Robert Dura, Douglas Hirn, Jared Kagan, Paul Laszlo, Matthew Parelman, Bari Steinberg, Elie Worenklein and Chen Xu have been named counsel to the firm, and that Konstantin Bureiko, Selena Chisholm, Aymeric Dumoulin and Robert Maddox have been named international counsel to the firm. Their promotions became effective on 1 January 2022.

Konstantin Bureiko is a member of the White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group and is resident in the London office. His practice focuses on white collar defense and investigations, and advising and representing multinational clients in relation to EU and UK trade and financial sanctions issues. Mr. Bureiko received his LPC from BPP Law School in 2011 and his B.A. from the University of Cambridge in 2009.

Selena Chisholm is a member of the Funds/Investment Management Group and is resident in the London office. She advises sponsors and investors on a variety of investment management issues, focusing primarily on representations of institutional and other investors in connection with their private equity investments. Ms. Chisholm received her LPC from the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice in 2001 and her B.A. from the University of Oxford in 2000.

Benjamin Collins-Wood is a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions Group and is resident in the New York office. His practice focuses on advising public and private companies, especially private equity clients, in mergers and acquisitions and other significant corporate matters, including cross-border transactions, carve-outs and joint ventures. Mr. Collins-Wood received his J.D. and LL.M. from Duke University School of Law cum laude in 2013 and his B.A. summa cum laude and with distinction from the University of Washington in 2009.

Aymeric Dumoulin is a member of the White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group and the Arbitration & International Disputes Group and is resident in the New York and Paris offices. His practice focuses on cross-border white collar criminal defense, multi-jurisdictional internal and government investigations and international arbitration, especially in the areas of money laundering, tax fraud, economic sanctions and export controls, anti-corruption and business and human rights. Mr. Dumoulin received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2013 and his M.A. with honors from the Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne in 2013.

Robert Dura is a member of the Financial Institutions Group and is resident in the Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on U.S. anti-money laundering, trade (sanctions and export controls) and foreign investment (CFIUS) compliance requirements. Mr. Dura received his M.Sc in Law and Finance with distinction from Oxford University in 2012, his J.D. from Georgetown Law Center in 2012, his M.A. from Georgetown University’s Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies at the Graduate School of Foreign Service in 2007 and his B.A. from Columbia University in 2004.

Douglas Hirn is a member of the Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Group and is resident in the New York office. His practice focuses on providing ERISA advice and support to private equity fund sponsors and other clients of the firm’s Investment Management Group, and advising clients on executive compensation and public company reporting practices. Mr. Hirn received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2014, his M.B.A. from New York University Stern School of Business in 2007 and his B.A. from The Ohio State University in 1999.

Jared Kagan is a member of the Intellectual Property Group and is resident in the New York office. His practice focuses on litigation and counseling clients on a broad range of intellectual property matters including trademarks, false advertising, right of publicity, copyright and defamation matters. Mr. Kagan received his J.D. summa cum laude from New York Law School in 2010 and his B.S. from Cornell University in 2007.

Paul Laszlo is a member of the Investment Management Group and is resident in the New York office. His practice focuses on advising sponsors of private equity funds on a broad range of matters including fund formation, ongoing operational matters, co-investments and regulatory compliance. Mr. Laszlo received his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2013 and his A.B. magna cum laude from Duke University in 2010.

Robert Maddox is a member of the firm’s Data Strategy & Security practice and White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group and is resident in the London office. His practice focuses on cybersecurity, data privacy and strategy, white collar defense and internal investigations. Mr. Maddox received his LPC from the College of Law in 2011, his LL.M. from the National University of Singapore in 2010 and his B.A. from the University of Cambridge in 2009.

Matthew Parelman is a member of the Insurance Group and is resident in the New York office. His practice focuses on advising clients on insurance M&A matters, especially on investment management agreements and insurance M&A regulations. Mr. Parelman received his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 2013, his M.A. in Russian & East European Studies from the University of Michigan in 2013 and his B.A. summa cum laude from the George Washington University in 2009.

Bari Steinberg is a member of the Investment Management Group and is resident in the New York office. Her practice focuses on advising sponsors of, and institutional investors in, private investments funds, co-investment vehicles and separately managed accounts covering numerous sectors and strategies including buyout, growth capital, credit and real estate. Ms. Steinberg received her J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law magna cum laude in 2012 and her B.B.A. summa cum laude from the George Washington University in 2009.

Elie Worenklein is a member of the Restructuring Group and is resident in the New York office. His practice focuses on a wide range of restructuring matters, representing debtors, lenders and creditors and handling litigation matters and transactional restructurings, including Chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings. Mr. Worenklein received his J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2011 and his B.S. from Touro College summa cum laude in 2008.

Chen Xu is a member of the Banking Group and is resident in the New York office. His practice focuses on advising banking clients on a wide range of bank regulatory, policy and transactional matters and cryptocurrency-related issues, including in the areas of regulatory capital, liquidity and stress testing. Mr. Chu received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2013 and his B.A. from University of California, Berkeley in 2010.
