Scottish firm appoints employment law specialist
Scottish legal firm MacRoberts has strengthened its Dundee base by recruiting the renowned employment law specialist Deborah Miller as a partner.
Miller is taking up her new role with the growing firm, having joined from Simpson and Marwick.
She is the eighth new partner recruited in the last six months by MacRoberts as part of an ambitious growth drive. The expansion included the move this month to new office premises in Dundee with the aim of doubling the workforce there over the next 12 months to meet increasing demand for legal services in the city.
Deborah has extensive experience in employment law litigation and has represented public and private sector clients at employment tribunals throughout the UK. Her expertise includes advising on discrimination, equal pay, disciplinary issues, redundancy and severance matters, harassment and the TUPE regulations.
For the last year, she had been chair of Women Ahead, an organisation set up in 2001 to encourage, support and connect women in business and the professions in Dundee and Angus. She is also a board member of Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce and a part-time tutor at Dundee University on the advanced employment law module, part of the Diploma in Legal Practice.
She says: “I am delighted to be joining a firm of MacRoberts’ stature. I was attracted to its excellent reputation across a number of specialisms and have been impressed by its plans for growth.
“The firm has made a big impact in Dundee and Angus in a short time and I look forward to helping it build further as part of wider expansion ambitions.”
The latest addition to MacRoberts’ growing ranks was welcomed by John Macmillan, who last September was elected as the firm’s Managing Partner for a second time and set out plans for significant development, including increasing the workforce by ten per cent within a year.
John Macmillan, the firm's managing partner, says: "Deborah’s appointment is another sign of our determination to build on our existing strengths and enhance the service we offer our clients.
“She is extremely well thought of in the profession and a much sought-after lawyer so we are delighted she has agreed to join the MacRoberts’ team. She will be a great asset to our Dundee operation and the firm in general.”
