Deech calls for divorce reform

Baroness Deech has called for legislative reform of divorce laws to stop women (and sometimes men) claiming an unfair share of the other party’s assets, in an interview with the Financial Times last month. Baroness Deech, who is bringing a private member’s bill to reform divorce laws, wants premarital assets, legacies and gifts excluded from divorce settlements; postmarital assets divided equally as long as the marriage has lasted more than three years; and maintenance to be stopped if the wife cohabits with a new partner.
