New judicial appointment for the Midlands Circuit

Barrister Robert McGinty has been appointed as a District Judge for the Midlands Circuit.

Robert, formerly of chambers St John’s Buildings, will be based in Stoke-on-Trent Combined Court. As a barrister, he specialised in civil law, including personal injury, costs, and housing cases. Robert has sat as a Deputy District Judge since 2015, as well as having held the role of First-tier Tribunal Judge in the Immigration and Asylum Chamber since 2006. He will also continue in his position as a Deputy Upper Tribunal Judge in the Immigration and Asylum Chamber alongside his new role.

Robert commented: ‘I am excited to be able to take on this new challenge. I look forward to bringing my 24 years’ experience at the bar to my new role’.

Chief executive of St John’s Buildings Chris Ronan added: ‘Robert has been an integral part of the SJB team for the last 17 years, adding valuable knowledge and insight on high profile cases. His latest appointment is well-deserved, and we would like to wish him all the best for the future.’
