The Department for Business, Innovation & Skills has published new guidance on e-signatures. An advanced electronic signature must satisfy the legal requirements of a signature in relation to data in electronic form, in the same manner as a handwritten signature, under the Electronic Signatures Directive 1999/93/EC. The guidance sets out what e-signatures are, how they are used and the different types available, and the role of the trust-service status list in authenticating them.
