Equal Pay

About 4,000 mainly female Birmingham City Council staff have won their equal pay claim.

An employment tribunal rejected the “genuine material factor” defence after considering it in relation to comparator groups such as road workers. The payout has been estimated as running into £100s of millions (see comment, p 633).
