EU crackdown on pet passports

Brits with pets can no longer take their cat, dog or ferret into the EU on their pet passport, as of this week

EU pet passports can now only be issued to people whose main home, not a holiday home, is in the EU, and passports issued before 22 April 2026 may no longer be valid. Therefore, pets may need a different document to enter the EU.

The government has recommended owners get an Animal Health Certificate for their pet and check the specific entry requirements of the destination country before travel.

However, EU pet passports can still be used for re-entry into the UK.
