EU election challenge

Thousands of EU nationals deprived of the right to vote in last week’s European Parliament elections have grounds for legal challenge, according to Anneli Howard, Monckton Chambers, and John Halford, partner, Bindmans.

Many EU citizens were turned away at polling booths or told they could only vote in their home country. A crowdfunding campaign for the action has raised more than £40,000 so far. Howard and Halford, in a joint statement on Bindmans’ website, said: ‘Ballot box discrimination against EU nationals is like any other nationality and race discrimination: unlawful and open to legal challenge.’
